Trafford College Student is first to complete MOET Apprenticeship with a distinction

by jake

23-year-old student, Kye, is the first to complete a Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) standard apprenticeship at Trafford College. Kye excelled in the apprenticeship by finishing with a Distinction. The apprenticeship programme was a joint venture between Trafford College, Essity, and Energy & Utility Skills, who facilitated the end assessment through its Independent Assessment Service (EUIAS).

Prior to attending Trafford College, Kye completed a Level 3 BTEC in general engineering at Runshaw College. He soon after wanted to go into either employment or a ‘learn as you earn’ scheme.

“I went searching for jobs and apprenticeships when I found Essity. I had seen that they were a good company, I knew a few people that worked there, and MOET was the path I went through with the company itself”.

Typically, a MOET-standard apprenticeship with Essity would have included a BTEC alongside but as Kye had already attained a BTEC, the flexibility of the standard allowed for him to work towards the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in that time instead.

“That’s the great thing about the MOET standard, you can tailor it to how you want to deliver it as an organisation.”

Ian, Kye’s Apprenticeship Programme Lead at Trafford College.

One of the benefits of the way the apprenticeship is delivered is that there is a great focus on the practical application of the legislation and theory which was taught in the classrooms. The MOET standards don’t just include methods for health and safety – they also detail why they are important, and how they specifically apply to the job in hand. Trafford College is extremely proud to have been able to offer such a well-rounded programme for Kye, in partnership with Essity and EUIAS.

The Future

Having excelled during his apprenticeship, Kye plans to stay with Essity. When asked if he would recommend the MOET apprenticeship programme to others, Kye said “It’s very worth it. You get the hands-on experience of doing the job as you’re getting your qualifications. It’s a no-brainer for me”.
