WorldSkills Centre of Excellence visit from top UK trainers

Students have gained coaching from top UK trainers– one of the privileges of the College’s status as one of the UK’s first WorldSkills Centres of Excellence.

NCFE awarding body and WorldSkillsUK educator Kevin Etchells and coach Peter Walters visited the College Group to get students ready compete at regional, national and international level in what is known as the world’s ‘Skills Olympics’.

WorldSkillsUK uses international best practice to boost technical education and apprenticeships success and runs several rounds of competitions each year to enable students to showcase their skills. As part of the College Group’s status as a WorldSkills Centre of Excellence students receive mentoring from high performance skills coaches in addition to learning from the industry experts we already have in College.

Commenting on the WorldSkillsUK website, High Performance Skills Coach Peter said: “During my time as a lecturer I have seen young people involved in WorldSkills UK training programmes really develop. They build confidence, knowledge and skills and they go onto bigger and better things. I want more young people to have those experiences and through the WorldSkills UK Centre of Excellence we will make that happen, enabling more and more young people to get the best start in work and life.”
