Students prepare to grill politicians for Question Time event

Students and apprentices from across Stockport College and Trafford College will descend on Stockport Town Hall on Friday 17 January to put some the UK’s leading politicians and decision makers through their paces.

Ricky Boleto, Presenter of BBC’s Newsround, will take his place on the Question Time panel as the Question Master. Joining him to face the students’ burning questions will be:

  • Shadow Education Secretary, Angela Rayner MP
  • Member of Parliament for Altrincham and Sale West, Sir Graham Brady
  • Marcus Noden – Superintendent of Police
  • Stuart Dunne – Deputy CEO of Youth Focus North West

Honoured guests will also include:

  • Robert Chiltern - Mayor of Trafford and Trafford College Ambassador
  • Laura Booth - Mayor of Stockport
  • Andrew Gwynne – MP and Stockport College Community Ambassador
  • Elise Wilson – Leader of Stockport Council and Stockport College Ambassador
  • Navendu Mishra – MP for Stockport
  • Cllr Tom Ross – Cabinet member for Finance at Trafford Council
  • Cllr Amanda Peers – Cabinet member for inclusion at Stockport Council
  • Daniel Wright – Head of St Annes RC High School

The event will give students a unique opportunity to debate with those in decision making positions in politics and public life. Key topics, as voted nationally by 11- 18 year olds in last year’s Make you Mark consultation, will include:

  • Mental health services for young people
  • Knife crime
  • Hate crime
  • Curriculum for life
  • Votes for 16s
  • The environment
