Top students celebrated at Trafford College’s annual awards

The outstanding achievements and successes of Trafford College’s students have been celebrated at the annual FE Student Awards evening.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Atrium at Trafford College for the glittering ceremony where Assistant Principal for Stretford & Stockport, Alex Fau-Goodwin, presented students from each of the curriculum subjects with a Student of the Year trophy, some of whom have bravely battled against adversity to achieve success.

Two students in particular were celebrating after being selected from over 10,000 students across the college and individually honoured with Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Yasmin Sze Wing Lee and Kelly Howard from the Altrincham and Stretford campuses, scooped the coveted trophies for their dedication and commitment to their studies, as well as contributions to charity.

Yasmin, who is working towards her Triple D* grade in Animation and Visual FX, was described by her tutors as ‘an exceptionally talented and industrious student’. Throughout her studies she has managed to balance an exceptional work ethic with community and charity-based activities, alongside professional development.

Kelly has overcome many personal struggles whilst juggling a young family, and could easily have been distracted from her studies. But her drive to better herself professionally, academically and personally, made her an inspiration to teach and she has achieved every one of her goals. Head of Studies for Adult & Community Learning, Karen Whitehouse commented, “Every so often a learner comes along that has such an impact on the college, that they make waves in the way we as an organisation operate. This learner has done just that and shown that no matter what the circumstances outside or inside of the college, that education has the power to change lives for the better.”

Assistant Principal for Stretford & Stockport, Alex Fau-Goodwin added, “It’s been such a fantastic evening where so many students have been recognised for their talents. I feel very proud to present these awards. The achievements of the students are testament to their hard work and determination and I’m sure they all have bright futures to look forward to.”
