Sport flexes coaching qualifications with 700 primary school children

Sports students from Altrincham Campus flexed their coaching qualifications to engage 700 primary school children in a multitude of sports activities in under four days.

BTEC Sport students visited a number of primary schools around Trafford and Stockport from Tuesday 11th June to Friday 14th June on the annual Sports Roadshow.

And the feedback from teaching staff at the schools was amazing!

St John’s RC Primary School in Chorlton tweeted: “Y4 thoroughly enjoyed their sessions with the Sports Roadshow. Thanks for choosing us.”

St Hugh of Lincoln in Stretford posted: “A big thank you to the Sports Leaders @TraffordCollege for another fantastic Sports Roadshow. Thank you also to the staff @RebeccaOvery, you are always very welcome!”

BTEC Sport learners undertake an additional internationally-recognised leadership qualification alongside their BTEC studies – the Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership, which culminates in the annual Sports Roadshow, now in its 18th year, under the guidance of sports tutor, Rebecca Overy.

Schoolchildren were treated to a two-hour session at each school covering a range of games and activities, and teachers were given activity cards and sport equipment – donated by the College – as well as healthy Muller snacks, thanks to our unique partnership with the company.

Sport tutor Rebecca said: “It was great, even in the face of bad weather. The Roadshow is not only to get children enthused about sport, but to also share our range of teaching resources and expertise with staff. The students and staff who took part loved sharing their ideas. It was a great success and we look forward to many more years of roadshows to come.”
