How do TV presenters achieve their looks under different lighting? Our Media Make Up students visited BBC studios to find out.
Lucky youngsters toured the sets and green rooms of BBC Breakfast, Mastermind, Question of Sport and 8 Out of 10 Cats to find out where they could be working in the future.
They got a taste of what it’s like to present a live bulletin by reading a script and visited the recording rooms of BBC radio.
Programme Lead for Hair, Beauty, Spa and Nails Lorraine Chaisty-Wilson said: “Students were learning about positive lighting and how light comes from two different sources to leave no shadow in order to think about how that affects the way make up is carried out on set.”
Make up artists are careful to create different tones for looks in different studios, depending on the colour of the backdrops.
In addition, they learned about different make up for male and female presenters, including the rules for children.
“Students were introduced to the many pathways to getting work with the BBC, which include apprenticeships and opportunities on the BBC jobs page,” Lorraine added.
