Where do you see yourself in five years?

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Students from Childcare and Health & Social Care have been taking part in Progression Week, a series of events focusing on providing additional careers guidance to young people leaving education and supporting them in assessing their future career opportunities.

Where do you see yourself in five years? A question that many of our Childcare and Health & Social Care students have been asking themselves over the duration of 'Progression Week' here at Trafford College. With a host of opportunities awaiting them upon completion of their current qualification, students have been best equipped with the knowledge and guidance to take their next steps.

Some of the events during Progression Week included:

  • Guest Lecture: First Aid for Children
  • Exploring Career Opportunities in Childcare with guests Bright Horizons
  • Guest Lecture: Montessori Approach and Play Therapy with Children with guests Village Nursery
  • An informal session with Judith Brown, Strategic Lead for Childrens services at Trafford Council

People working in health & social care or childcare fulfil many different roles, but it all comes down to helping those in our society who often need it most. That includes the elderly, those with health problems or learning disabilities, and young people (or their families). It can be a difficult job, but also a rewarding one.

Here are some of the jobs available in health & social care and childcare:

  • healthcare support worker
  • night care assistant
  • mental health outreach worker
  • substance misuse worker
  • early years worker or assistant
  • assistant youth support and community worker
  • nursery teaching assistant

Once you’ve got some experience and further qualifications you can move on to more senior roles such as team leader, supervisor and manager.
