Apprentice chef clocks up 52nd flight on Stockport College work placement
A Trafford College apprentice has used his new-found budget and work placement to pursue a hobby clocking up air miles – making 52 flights in the last two years.
Starting the year in New York, 17-year-old trainee Commis Chef, Harry Witterick has taken a total of nine flights in January alone, posting pictures of his destinations online to an ever growing Facebook and Instagram following.
Working with one of Trafford College’s industry partners, Manchester Airport T3 Business and First Class Lounge, has made it even easier for Harry to seek out cheap flights as well as hop on and off airlines, sometimes within 24 hours.
It’s also helped the aviation enthusiast post more pictures of planes online, earning thanks from Ethiopian Airlines’ official Facebook account as well as #AV Geek of the Month on Heathrow Airport’s website.
Harry said: “I applied to Trafford College through the Airport and I’m really enjoying learning to be a chef as well as meeting new people. I always make sure I’m back for my one day’s training each week in College.”
Harry’s tips for travel enthusiasts seeking to fly on a budget are to look for deals mid-week and to search for flights using websites that automatically calculate the cheapest flights.
Apprentice assessor Carl Plimmer said: “I see Harry regularly and he’s as incredibly focussed and driven in his career as he is with his pastime. Not only are we developing his catering skills, but we’re giving him guidance, support and target setting in an environment he clearly loves. We’re happy to have been part of helping him towards his goal to fly as much as possible.”
During his holidays, Harry has also found the time to travel more than 3,000 miles by train.
