Course Overview

This level is recommended for individuals with a foundational level of knowledge who aspire to demonstrate their competence within their current role. It is a valuable step toward advancing from a junior to a senior position.

You may also be looking for a qualification to prepare you for progression to Level 3 qualifications.
At this level, there are five pathways you can choose from:
 Animal Care and Welfare
 Zoos/Wildlife Establishments
 Dog Grooming
 Pet Care and Retail
 Animal Training.

The course is carried out at Carrington Riding Centre where we have an Animal Rescue on site, which enables you to learn about and handle a variety of small animals and also the horses.

Course Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths.

What you will Learn

Assessment

This is a work-based qualification so there are no exams. Assessments are carried out through practical observation and written work, which builds up a portfolio. All units must be completed to achieve the qualification.

Progression

There are many opportunities for you to progress with us during your course.

No matter what your prior experience and ability, you will be able to develop your skills appropriately.

We have a wide range of animals and horses for you to handle, as well as facilities and equipment.

This level is ideal if you have some knowledge and you want to prove your competence in your role, and is likely to help you move from a junior to senior position.

 Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of basic animal training programmes
 Control and restrain animals
 Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment
