This short course is designed for those with little or no previous experience of using British Sign Language. Sessions are delivered at a comfortable pace within a supportive environment.
You will learn the art of finger spelling to sign numbers and letters and then quickly progress onto using hand shapes to introduce yourself, make personal greetings and ask basic questions. The course will give you the skills and confidence to use sign language to communicate on a number of topics: employment, hobbies, transport, etc.
Included, is a session on deaf awareness that helps learners gain a greater insight and understanding of hearing impairment.
This course can help to both imnprove your employment prospects and personal confidence.
For many, it will help to enhance job performance in their current role, especially if they are front line workers who are in contact with deaf people on a regular basis: local authority, care sector and retail.
You may wish to progress onto Intermediate British Sign Language or a Level 1 qualification.

The Tuition fee for this course is £225.00
19+ Learners may be eligible for a FREE course if they are:
Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit).
Studying a qualification below Level 3 and employed and earning less than £20,888.
Your eligibility for a free course will be assessed and confirmed at enrolment.
