Course Overview

Each week you will have an introduction to the design you are making to help you understand the basics of floristry and a demonstration by your tutor. No previous experience is necessary as you will be guided throughout. Below is a basic guide of flowers, foliage and sundries required to complete your designs.

You may wish to obtain your own floristry scissors to bring each week and practise at home.

Your Tutor will advise you the week before what to bring.

Where possible, always look at colours chosen, length of stems needed, and quantities.

You will learn what flowers to select as you gain more knowledge.

– Basic wiring and taping techniques/ leaf stitching/ make your own Buttonhole

– Bridesmaids crown/circlet headress

– Natural tied pew end/chair back , Oasis Pew end/chair back (these can be used to decorate walls, doors or staircases)

– Table centre with candles and matching Napkin ring/side plate decor (Can be used at ceremomy table, wedding reception and general room d‚cor)

Week 5 – Thank you Hand Tied in presentation box

Week 6 – Wedding Corsage

Course Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, just a keen interest in flowers.

What you will Learn

The aims of the course are:
To introduce floristry with the specific focus to floral displays that can be used for weddings
To encourage safe and efficient working practices.

Topics will include:
Care and conditioning of flowers
Principles and elements of design
Constructing a range of designs in floral foam
Basic techniques for wiring and taping flowers and foliage
Designing and making a buttonhole.

Assessment

This is an essentially practical course with no formal assessment. Learners will receive constructive verbal feedback each week and will be encouraged to keep a photographic record of their work.

Progression

This taster course can lead onto other floristry intro courses.
