Course Overview

This is a full time study programme primarily to provide education and training for sport, leisure and recreation employees. Students who undertake this course will look to progress to higher education and/or employment within the sport and active leisure sector, a sector which has consistently outperformed the rest of the UK economy.

Whilst there are some practical elements within the study programme, content will largely focus on the theoretical application of the key strands of sport. You will be expected to find a suitable work experience placement in your first year.

Learners will also be able to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme as well as the many different sporting enrichment offers. Learners will also have free access to the college gym with personalised diet and training plans available. Finally, students will aslo undertake the Sports Leaders UK Level 3 Award which is an industry recognised qualification that enables successful learners to independently lead purposeful and enjoyable sport/physical activity.

This course is designed for progression to Higher Education and employment; you will be given a programme of personal and professional development to support this. Students will develop a range of different key skills such as organisation, communication and leadership which will help learners achieve their career aspirations. Careers in Sport include physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, teaching, personal training, coaching, journalism, research and development.

Within the BTEC Sport course students will be assessed through a variety of methods including; essays, reports, presentations, leaflets, posters and practical sessions.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
