This qualification covers the required skills and knowledge for preparing to work in the Hospitality & Catering Industry. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who work or want to work in the industry and will give them a taste of various areas within hospitality & catering including working in hotels, restaurants and events.

4 GCSE’s at grade 3 or above including maths and English at grade 3 / D.

This qualification is for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality sector. It is ideal for learners coming straight from school who wish to seek a career in the industry. It is also ideal for those chefs in the industry who would like to continue to refresh their knowledge by undertaking topics within the qualification.

To prepare you for a higher qualification, employment or university you might be required to study a GCSE qualification in Maths and English.

Trafford College’s award winning Aspire Restaurant has been nationally recognised by the AA and is open to the public for lunch and dinner and offers a realistic working environment.

There are 4 well equipped industry standard kitchens for training purposes and a demonstration theatre kitchen for presentations and theory workshops. A well-stocked library and computer workshop can also be accessed by all students. Industrial and educational visits are also included in this study programme.

Successful students can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Chef or Level 3 Diploma in Professional Pastry Chef or Level 3 Food & Beverage Supervision.

Assessment is continuous, with candidates undertaking practical observations, short answer questions and producing written evidence to meet the requirements of the qualification.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and ther European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on the 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).

Candidates will need to invest in a front of house uniform and we strongly recommended purchasing a Level 3 Hospitality Supervision & Leadership handbook.

You will need to undertake an extended work experience placement as part of your study programme.
