Course Overview

This course allows learners to develop a wide range of skills relevant to the creative media industries and is designed for those with a keen interest in the creative media sector.

The course is made up of units relating to specialist digital creative media disciplines, to learn a wide range of skills and decide which areas you may wish to progress into, including;

– Game Level Design
– Video Production
– Animation Techniques

You will learn in a variety of ways, including workshops, individual and interactive group tasks, demonstrations and lectures. You will be expected to work as part of a production crew in order to produce quality pieces of work, as well as working on your own projects.

Students have access to fully equipped computer suites, drawing tablets and high quality photographic and video recording equipment and facilities.


Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 3 or above (including English Language).

What you will Learn

This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the digital audio/visual sector to ensure that you develop the skills and behaviours that give you the best opportunity to be successful in applying for apprenticeships and further education. Learners will cover Research, Planning and Pitching a Media Product, Moving Image Production, Editing for Moving Image, Audio Production, Lighting and Filming. The course aims to develop a foundation of skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the media production sector of the Creative Industries.

Assessment

Units are tailored to suit the diverse range of skills required, and opportunities available, in the creative industries. The majority of units are assessed through project based work or theory assignments and it is expected that students spend a significant amount of time on assessment projects as self-directed study outside College as well as within the timetabled lessons. There are also two underpinning theory units, 1 and 8, where you will learn about media industries and audiences, which are assessed by means of short written tests in January and May.

Progression

The course will prepare you for progression to one of our BTEC Level 3 Creative Media pathways (Games Development, TV and Film, Animation and Visual Effects), employment or apprenticeships in media related industries.
