Course Overview

UK creative industries generate more than œ100bn a year to the UK economy and employ more than 2m people. This course offers you the technical and creative grounding you’ll need to become part of this expanding sector. The course provides a balance between the practical and theoretical aspects of Hair and Media Make-up Studies, where you will research and discuss a range of media looks, special effects and develop the advanced skills of a make-up artist.

With expert guidance you will develop your practical skills in theatre, special effects, hair, and media make-up to a high professional industry standard.

During practical lessons you will take part in a range of demonstrations, workshops, discussion, and research activities presenting and communicating your ideas through practical work and a portfolio ‘look book’. Theory classes will involve developing your knowledge through discussion and answering questions in preparation for written examinations.

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (including maths and/or English Language).

Learn from our industry-renowned hair and make-up team, our excellent industry connections mean that you will have a wealth of opportunities for work experience, placements, and visits. Practical and creative skills will be developed alongside an in-depth knowledge of theatre, special effects, and media make-up. This course will immerse you into the exciting world of theatre, special effects, hair, and make-up design.

Assessment

You will be assessed continually throughout the course by practical assessments, research assignments, portfolio ‘look book’ and final written end exams.

A minimum of 36 hours work experience which is integral to the course and is assessed as part of the practical element.

Progression

Progression to a Foundation Degree in media Make-Up Studies.
