Course Overview

The global hair and beauty industry could be seen to cater for only the glamourous, the vain or those in the spotlight, however global trends show an increase in the consumer market putting hair, beauty and wellness high on most people’s agenda.

The course provides an introduction into the sector with a balance between developing practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Our Level 1 Professional programme has two pathways, Hair and Make-up or Beauty and Nails.

With expert guidance you will develop your basic practical hair and beauty skills to a professional standard.
During practical lessons you will take part in a range of demonstrations, workshops, discussion and research activities to communicate your ideas through practical work and a portfolio of evidence. Theory classes will involve developing your knowledge through discussion and answering questions in preparation for written examinations.

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 2 or above (including maths and English Language).

What you will Learn

Learn from our industry focused hair and beauty team, our excellent industry connections mean that you will have a range of opportunities for work experience and visits. Practical and creative skills will be developed alongside an introduction to the sector; this course will immerse you into the exciting world of customer service and hair, make-up, beauty and nail treatments.

Assessment

You will be assessed continually throughout the course by practical assessments, research assignments, service treatment portfolio and final written end exams.

A minimum of 36 hours work experience which is integral to the course and is assessed as part of the practical element.

Progression

Progression to Level 2 Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Media Make-up or Nail Technology on successful completion of the course.

Our students have an excellent record of success with career prospects that include:

Retailing
Commercial hair and beauty salons (minimum L2 qualification)
Destination day spa (L3 qualification)
Self- employed mobile therapist Cruise liners (L3 qualification)
