What is the project?

Welcome to the Family English project, a new Creative Writing course for schools from the Employability & Community Learning team. Designed for parents and carers, the course will help to engage families and support parents’ English skills. With World Book Day fast approaching on 7 March 2019, this is an ideal opportunity to harness the enthusiasm in school and extend the passion for literacy to families. The Creative Writing course will be aimed at parents and will be run in schools, typically for two hours every week for a duration of four weeks.

What is covered on the course?

This fun and interactive course will look at ideas for getting started, character development and setting with some top tips for parents/carers to support their children’s writing skills. There is the opportunity for parents and children to participate in a creative writing competition by writing a short story entitled, `My Family.’  There will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best story based on plot, characterisation and enjoyment and an opportunity to host a prize-giving assembly at your school.

What do I do next?

If you would like to participate in this project, please register your interest using the form on the right-hand side or call the Employability & Community Learning team on 0161 886 7443.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Our Previous Success

Last year we launched the 'My Animal Dream...', a creative writing competition that saw 22 parents and 28 children taking part in the workshops. Children were presented with their certificates for taking part in the course and also received their very own copy of the published Trafford Tales book.
