Vehicle Paint Spraying IMI Level 1 Diploma

Course Overview

This introductory qualification is aimed at young learners who have a keen interest to learn about vehicle paint refinishing and the different accident repair roles that are available in the retail motor industry.

As part of the Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair – Refinishing learners will study the following units:

Health and Safety in the Workplace
Locating, Interpreting and Using Technical Information
Applying Engineering Techniques
Corrosion Protection
Accident Repair Core Knowledge and Skills
Vehicle Materials and Joining Methods
Preparation to Become a Vehicle Driver
Tools, Equipment and Materials for Accident Repair
Vehicle Paint Preparation
Application of a Topcoat and Minor Defect Rectification
Spray Guns and Their Components
Spraying Techniques
Primers and Sealers
Surface Preparation
Vehicle Masking
Exterior Valeting and Detailing
The Retail Motor Industry

Learners under the age of 19 will also study Maths and English as part of the programme.

During the course all learners are expected to undertake a work placement as part of their studies.

Course Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including maths and English

Course Skills & Benefits

The course is a mixture of practical and theoretical knowledge. Approximately 50% of the work will be classroom based.

The practical element of the course takes place in our fully equipped motor vehicle paint shop, learners are required to provide their own safety footwear and protective overalls.

Course Progression

Successful candidates can progress on to the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Paint Principles or onto an apprenticeship.

Course Assessment

Assessment is by practical tasks and completion of a portfolio of evidence along with one multiple-choice online end test.

Course Finance

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
