Travel & Tourism Level 3 Extended Diploma

Course Overview

This programme is the quivalent of three A-Levels, but without the added pressure of external exams. This is an exciting alternative to a traditional Level 3 programme, providing opportunities for employment in Travel & Tourism, or progression into higher education. It is also ideal for those that may wish to work within the travel and tourism industry who need specific vocational knowledge at this level for employment. Overseas and day visits linked to the curriculum each year. Past desitinations have included Spain, Mallorca, Fuerteventura, Portugal and France. We also have extensive day visits including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Chester Zoo and the Lake District. Destinations will vary each year.

Students will also undertake a 2 week industry placement. Previous placements have been at; Premier Inn, Manchester Museum, Holiday Inn Express, Manchester Airport, Travel Agents, Chill Factor and Eurocamp.

This course is also available as a one year option, equivalent to one or one & a half A-Levels. Please ask for details of alternative certificates available.

Course Requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4 including English and maths.

Course Progression

On successful completion of the cvourse it may be possible for students to apply directly for aviation employment, use the course towards further education here at Trafford College, progress to Higher Education at University or a Higher Apprenticeship.

Course Assessment

A variety of individual and group based assessments are used including assignments, presentations, role plays, practical observations, written reports, industry case studies and short tests. Students are required to attend the overseas visit as assessment takes place. The overall grade for the qualification is awarded to learners who successfully complete units. Students are expected to complete additional study and research outside of college.

Course Finance

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).

The estimated costs associated with the course are £550. This payment will contribute towards the overseas visits and day visits programme. Financial support may be available for students experiencing financial difficulties.
