Course Overview

This consists of:
- Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Care (England) - 603/2764/9 (Competence based)
- Functional Skills / Mathematics Level 2
- Functional skills / English Level 2
The Level 3 Diploma in Care is the main component within the Apprenticeship Standard for Lead Adult Care Worker.
The aim of this qualification is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of the Health & Social Care worker. It provides an insight into the principles of care and legislation of the sector and will aid career development.
This competence-based qualification is designed for those people who:
- are involved in the Health & Social Care sector as their primary work activity.
- wish to progress further in the Health & Social Care sector.
- wish to gain recognition of their skills and experience in Health & Social CareThe structure allows for learners to add credits to their studies to build their competence and skill level.

Course Requirements

All prospective learners will be interviewed and complete a skills scan & initial assessment. You will need to be employed for at least 30 hours per week. Additional requirements are: Completed Care Certificate and a satisfactory DBS check

Course Progression

Successful learners may progress to a higher level. Health & Social care employees who advance to a Senior position can then undertake the Apprenticeship Standard for Lead Adult Care Work.

Course Assessment

The Diploma is a competence based qualification assessed by portfolio. The qualification consists of a minimum of 58 credits. These are drawn from 28 mandatory credits, a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional/specialist knowledge units and 23 Credits from optional competence units. The Knowledge Certificate focuses on the 6 C’s applied in health and social care in addition to the knowledge and understanding which underpins the acquisition of a wide range of work, interpersonal and technical skills needed by health and social care workers in the UK workforce. The award involves an End Point Summary Assessment with an external assessor in which you will firstly complete a 60 minute situational judgement test answered through a multiple choice exercise and secondly a 45 minute professional discussion. You will be able to achieve a pass, merit or distinction for this award.
