Physics A Level

Course Overview

Physics is the study of the nature and properties of energy and matter. As you
progress through the course you will build on your knowledge of the laws of Physics, applying your understanding to solve problems on topics ranging from sub-atomic particles to the entire universe.

Content is in six modules:
Module 1: Development of practical skills in physics
Module 2: Foundations in physics
Module 3: Forces and motion
Module 4: Electrons, waves and photons
Module 5: Newtonian world and astrophysics
Module 6: Particles and medical physics

Course Requirements

A good GCSE profile including 6 in Maths and Science subjects studied and 5 in English

Course Progression

Physics is an essential subject for engineering and will be very useful in a range of careers from architecture to Zoology.
Employers value the logic and problem solving skills it develops

Course Assessment

Assessment is through three interrelated exams at the end of the second year.

A separate practical grade is awarded for the successful completion of 12 mandatory experimental tasks.
