Health & Social Care NCFE Level 2 Technical Diploma

Course Overview

A BTEC First Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSEs at A-C. It has been developed for students aged 16 years or over who have a career interest in the field of Health and Social Care. The qualification has been designed to be delivered in a work related context to allow learners to develop an understanding of the diverse and complex nature of the Health and Social Care sector.

Alongside the necessary academic qualifications, successful applicants will possess many personal attributes essential for the Health and Social Care field. These include good communication skills, the ability to demonstrate empathy, follow instructions and ask for help when needed.

In addition you will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, effort and collaborative working both at college and in your work placement. Students must understand the importance of confidentiality in placement settings.

Course Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 including English and maths.

Students should also have voluntary or paid work experience and a satisfactory police check.

This course offers students the potential to work as part of a health care team where they will undertake their practical assessments. Students will be involved in organising activities for clients with different needs and they will be actively involved in a range of charity events during their time in college. If students are undecided on a career path, this course offers the opportunity to progress into a wide range of Health and Social Care Careers including Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Police, Paramedics, Pharmacy Assistants, Support Workers to name but a few.

Course Progression

This a nationally recognised award that provides evidence to employers in the health and care sector that a level of competence expected by the Government has been reached in a range of care related subjects suitable for employment.

It can enable students to progress onto a Level 3 programme or an apprenticeship in Health & Social Care Level 2/3 (if employment gained).

Course Assessment

The Certificate includes 7 units

5 are assessed by course work and videoed practical assessment

2 are assessed by external exams

Course Finance

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and ther European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on the 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
