GCSE Mathematics

Course Overview

The course covers the new GCSE Mathematics specification, at the Foundation tier, but those with very high scores on the GCSE assessment may be offered a place in a Higher tier class.

The course covers the following topics:
Number, algebra, ratio, proportion and rates of change, geometry and measures, probability and statistics.

Upon application, learners will be contacted with an assessment date and places will be offered on appropriate courses based on their assessment result.
Course requirements mean you must attend 90% of all classes.

You will need a scientific calculator (we recommend the Casio fx83), A4 file, paper, pen, pencil, protractor, ruler, compasses.

Course Requirements

This course is aimed at adults, aged 19+ on or before the 31st August. All students must take a GCSE maths assessment before being accepted on to the course. If you are unsuccessful in achieving a place on the GCSE maths course, you may be re-directed towards a Functional maths course.

Course Progression

GCSE maths grade 4 or 5 (equivalent to grade C on previous specification) is required for many courses and careers.

Course Assessment

GCSE Mathematics 9_1 There are three exams to be taken on the set dates shown: Paper 1 – non calculator (1h 30) 21st May 2019 Paper 2 – calculator (1h 30) 6th June 2019 Paper 3 – calculator (1h 30) 11th June 2019 The qualification will be graded and certificated on a nine-grade scale from 9 to 1 using the total mark across all three papers where 9 is the highest grade. Individual papers are not graded.
