Work based experiences through practical work, industry visits and guest speakers will provide a real context for academic study, thus ensuring that knowledge gained is continuously applied, and skills are developed within real and simulated work situations.
Course fees are £6,995 per year full time or £3,600 per year part-time. Extra Costs: You will need to purchase appropriate clothing for the course. A full list will be provided by the college. There will also be costs for photocopying and printing.
Study trips and visits may be arranged throughout the course. These will be discussed, along with any costs, with you at the appropriate time. Attendance on trips/visits will not affect your academic success but they will enhance your overall experience.

Course Requirements

Normally GCSE English language or English Literature and Mathematics at Grade C or above or equivalents such as 1) Level 2 Adult Numeracy/Literacy 2) Level 2 Key skills/ Application of number 3) Equivalency test from www.equivalencytesting.co.uk PLUS one of the following * 64 UCAS points or * Access to HE Diploma from a recognised HE course. Note: If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or a recognised equivalent. Non-standard Entry Applicants over the age of 21 years who do not meet the above criteria will be considered on a case by case basis. Their experience, references and other qualifications will be considered to determine their suitability for admission to the programme. This course involves possible contact with children or other potentially vulnerable client groups and, therefore, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check) is a mandatory requirement for this course

Course Progression

Students will be prepared, both academically and practically, to enter employment in a range of opportunities in the sport coaching and fitness sector. If you are successful in this foundation degree, you will have the opportunity to progress to the final year of the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching at Sheffield Hallam University, subject to achieving a merit profile.

Validated by Sheffield Hallam University, this course is designed to prepare you for a career as a professional sports coach. Whether you want to work in a performance or participation domain, in schools, governing bodies, professional sports clubs or commercial sport/activity settings, the course has been planned to challenge and support your development to be the best sport coach you can be. Whether you aspire to coach children, adolescents or adults as a professional sports coach we will extend your knowledge and understanding of how to design coaching sessions, plan for participant development or adapt your delivery to achieve desired outcomes, we'll help you get there. Your studies involve theory and practical elements, where lectures and essay writing are combined with real-world opportunities to put your knowledge into practice. During your course, you will undertake a work placement in an appropriate sport coaching setting. We know that to be an employable graduate, you need to able to think and act creatively, formulate solutions to problems and be an effective communicator whether in a written, verbal or social media environment. We support you to develop those skills so that you can interact effectively with others in a range of sport coaching situations.
