Computers for beginners

Course Overview

What will you learn?

This is a beginners’ computer course designed for those with little or no experience of using a computer.
You will be introduced to the different parts of the computer and learn how to use simple programs that help you browse webpages and complete forms on the internet as well as sending and receive email safely and securely.

At the end of the class, you should be able to:

• Identify the different parts of the computer, use a mouse and a computer keyboard
• Browse the internet safely and securely and complete simple online forms
• Send and receive emails
• Understand how to keep yourself safe and your information secure while online

What happens in the class?

There will be a mixture of live demonstration, group work and practice as well as opportunities to discuss the various topics. There will be some independent study and learners are expected to practice their newly learned skills outside of class times. Full attendance is required to achieve the course objectives.

Course Requirements


Course Progression

Lots! You can progress onto the Improvers’ IT course (10-12 weeks) which will introduce you to Word Processing and Spreadsheets. If you attend more than 90% of sessions and complete the course objectives, you can also extend the course by two sessions and take the Functional Skills E3 ICT award exam in class.

There is no formal assessment for this class.
