Course Overview

Senior Healthcare Apprenticeship Standard consists of:

• Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (England) (Competence based) 603/2462/4
• Functional Skills/Maths Level 2
• Functional Skills/English Level 2
• Care Certificate
• Assessment Gateway
• End Point Assessment

The Apprenticeship Standard for Healthcare Support Worker (Clinical Healthcare Support) is designed for those people who:
• Are involved in the Healthcare sector as their primary work activity
• Wish to progress further in the Healthcare sector
• Wish to gain recognition of their skills and experience in Healthcare

The Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support is the main component within the Apprenticeship Standard. It is a competence based qualification assessed by portfolio including written evidence and observations in the workplace. The aim of this qualification is to contribute to core skills, knowledge, values and behaviours and overall performance of the Healthcare Support Worker. It provides an insight into the principles of Health (Clinical Healthcare Support) and legislation of the sector and will aid career development. The qualification consists of a minimum of 65 credits.

In addition to the core knowledge, skills and behaviours for all Senior Healthcare Support Workers, the apprentice and their employer will select one of the following options:
1. Adult Nursing Support
2. Maternity Support
3. Theatre Support
4. Mental Health Support
5. Children and Young People
6. Allied Health Profession Therapy Support

Functional Skills maths and English Level 2 is achieved by exam.
Functional Skills aim to ensure people have good communication skills in reading and writing and good mathematical skills in numeracy to work competently in their role.

The Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support structure allows for learners to add credits to their studies to build their competence and skill level. Course Requirements

All prospective learners will be interviewed and complete a Skills Scan & initial assessment. You will need to be employed for at least 30 hours per week.

Course Progression

Successful students may progress to a higher level. After a period of working and gaining experience, you may be able to work towards an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate post or, providing you meet the entry requirements, apply to university to become a registered healthcare practitioner.

Course Assessment

The Care Certificate may have already been achieved with your employer. If not this can be achieved by mapping across evidence from the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support. The Assessment Gateway will be accessed once the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support, Functional Skills maths and English Level 2 and Care Certificate have been achieved. An evidence portfolio of your knowledge and skills development is required at this point containing a journal of reflective accounts. The End Point Assessment is accessed once the Assessment Gateway has been achieved. The End Point Assessment includes the following components: • A Multiple choice test • An observation of practice undertaken in the workplace • An evidence portfolio completed by the apprenticeship with an interview
