Apprenticeship Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals in Barbering

Course Overview

Trainees should be aged 16 or above
This is a work-based qualification, preparing and inspiring trainees in the skills required, for the barbering industry. Trainees are required to work for a minimum of 30 hours in a placement, and attend college for one day a week.

Learners will complete an E-Portfolio to track their progress and assessment.
Students must be committed to attend college to a minimum of 90%.

The placement must be committed to provide in-house training to meet the minimum of 20% of the overall programme.

The programme consist of 6 units
• Advice and consultation
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair
• Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
• Style and finish gents hair
• Cut facial hair into shape
• Provide shaving services
To achieve the Full Qualification you are required to complete the following elements:
• Professional level 2 diploma in barbering
• Functional skills in maths and English
• End point assessment
Apprentice students will have access to fully equipped, modern, training workshops/salons. The ‘Enhance’ salon at the college is open to the public, providing a range of professional services. In addition, the college has a wide range of facilities available to trainees: a Learning Resources Centre with access to ILT, careers guidance and a variety of student services.

Students will be provided with essential equipment and a professional uniform.

Course Requirements

Grade 3 or above in GCSE maths and English: A school reference and successful interview. An industry placement for 30 hours. An initial assessment to check learner’s profile.

Course Progression

Successful trainees may progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Barbering.

Course Assessment

Assessment is continuous, using a variety of methods, including observation of practical skills, oral questioning and online testing. Pass or Distinction grades will be awarded at final assessment. Salon reviews take place every 6/8 weeks to set targets and track progress Awarding organisation - City and Guilds
