Applied Law with Business Level 3 Extended Diploma

Course Overview

This course is for students interested in Business and Law, who wish to know how the legal system works in civil, criminal and business cases.

The course has been designed and developed to give learners a qualification that will enable them to:
Develop their employability and professional skills
Focus on their own self development through personal study
Interact with legal executives and business professionals throughout the course of study
Apply to University for further studies in Law or Business
Apply for an Apprenticehsip route into legal work.

As part of the study programme, students will have time allocated to guest speakers, court visits, a "House of Commons" day and a "Think Law" career preperation programme in study time.

Course Requirements

5 GCSE's at grades 9 - 4 including English and maths at grade 4; or a BTEC First Certificate in a related subject area (plus GCSE Maths and ENglish at grade 4), and a successful interview.

Mandatory Units

In year 1, students will focus on studies in Applied Law & Business. This will consist of 4 mandatory units:

1. Dispute Solving in Civil Law
2. Investigating Aspects of Criminal Law and the legal system
3. Applying the Law
4. Aspects of Family Law

Business units in year 1 include:

Exploring Business
Developing a Marketing Campaign
Personal & Business Finance
Work Experience in Legal Practice

In year 2 a mix of Law & Business units are undertaken including:

Event Marketing
International Business
Principles of Management
Employment Law
Criminal Law impacting on business and individuals

Course Progression

Opportunities to progress to Higher Education or an Apprenticeship. This Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels for university entrance purposes and relevant UCAS points.

Course Assessment

There is continual assessment for each of the units by vocational assignments leading to external quality assessment called National Standards Sampling.

Law units 1 & 3 and Business units 2,3 & 6 require assessment in the form of a nationally set controlled assessment where a period of preperation is permitted beforehand in some units.

Course Finance

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and ther European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on the 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
